Don't Eat that Cookie Dough

I'll never again think twice or even once about eating raw cookie dough (at least not in this country). Why?? Because it landed me straight in the hospital...

If any of you have been wondering why the Omondis have been a little quiet lately, not only is it cause we have been busy with a pastors conference and visitors from the State but also b/c I was admitted to the hospital Friday with severe dehydration and what they think was a bad bacterial stomach infection that went to my blood. I"m pretty sure it came from a bad egg in some raw cookie dough I tasted before cooking on Thursday night (you always take a chance when you do that especially in this country) About midnight Thursday night I woke up having diarrhea and violent vomiting over and over every 30 min. to an hour for 6 hours til there was nothing left in my gut or body as far as water or electrolytes. I was completely dehydrated that my hands were tingling and curling. I was taken to the hospital and they admitted me straight and started fluids and antibiotics. I was admitted Friday afternoon about 2pm and released on Saturday afternoon to recover at home. I’m feeling much better, still a little weak but nothing like the last few days. The hospital was quite nice actually. It even had a little balcony that had a ocean view. God was gracious!!!! He knows my favorite place to be is near the ocean. Dennis stayed with me and enjoyed the hot water in the shower and cranked the air condition (there was air condition in the room!!!!!) up in the room. I think its the best sleep we’ve had since we got here:):):) At least the coolest! We knick named the hospital Mombasa Hospital Beach Resort. Ha!

So whoever prayed for me the last few days didn’t even know what they were praying for but God took care of me for sure!! He is good...and throughout I had complete peace. And God showed His love to us through the many friends and brothers and sisters in Christ here who were around to help us and encourage us through visits, phone calls and cards. Thank you Jill for taking such good care of Anjela for us and to the Helman family and Ben for encouraging and being there for us as well. And to our many Kenyan friends who called and came to visit, Mbarikiwe sana! We love you all!

Wow what an event. Glad to hear you are doing better. I came across your blog and missionaries to Africa have always been a burden on my heart. I have friends that are in Dakar, Senegal. Krystal and Earl Klassen. They followed in her parents footsteps, I say that but they followed the Lord's calling to go there. Certainly glad to know that my prayers for your family have been answered even without knowing that you needed them even more so at this time.

So sorry you've been so sick! Ugh. Glad you are on the mend and that you had what sounds to be a good hospital experience (if any experience in a hospital is good). We'll be praying for your continued recovery.

I hope you feel better. If I ever get sick I want to be in a hospital in Mombasa.
